Audi Best Buddies Challenge -
Hearst Castle, San Simeon, California

 The 2007 Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle was an incredible event. On Saturday, September 8 over 800 riders took to the road for 100, 62 or 15 miles to the Hearst Castle along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway under clear blue skies and perfect 70 degree temperatures.
Joining participants in the fourth ABBC: HC were stars of the cycling world including David Zabriskie and Lars Michaelsen of Axel Merckx, Mari Holden, Aaron Olsen, Linda Jackson, Alex Candelario, Michael Jones and mountain bike and cyclocross national champion Ryan Trebon; the stars of the screen such as Clint Eastwood and Rob Lowe; and the just plain stars like California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose wife Maria Shriver is the Honorary Chair of the event.

Following the ride, all participants headed up to the Hearst Ranch for an incredible BBQ and concert by Cheap Trick. Overall, the 2007 ride was the most successful fundraiser in Best Buddies history, raising over $3 million for Best Buddies programs which work to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment.
Eric Matthes, a program participant from Utah who rode 15 miles and raised $2,000 for Best Buddies said it the best: “I want to show the world that even though I have a disability, I can do anything I put my mind to! Best Buddies shows that people with disabilities like me can live our lives to their utmost potential: friendship is the fuel that makes this happen!”
